medicalkit.jpg

  • Box of band aids in assorted sizes box of large latex exam gloves
  • 2 inch sterile gauze pads (a box) 4 inch sterile gauze pads (a box)
  • 1 roll each of 1 inch & 2 inch adhesive tapes, the best kinds to look for are;
  • paper tape, silk tape, & *TRANSPORE tape; (this is a clear tape with little minute holes punched all over it to allow the skin to breath & it's my personal preference,) ~*Look for Tegaderm, a transparent dressing that covers mild 1st degree burns & mild abrasions so you can see the wound but it offers protection from the air
  • Q-tips
  • eye dropper
  • antiseptic; Hydrogen Peroxide, povidine/Iodine-Betadine* soap, either liquid or solid.
Tip - get a 16 oz. bottle of *Ethyl Rubbing Alcohol, you can find it in any drug store, or it may be listed as Isopropyl Alcohol. You can use it as an antiseptic hand rinse, among other things.
  • Normal saline
Tip - This is a very important item you need in your medical supplies because you'll use it for many of your family's different medical needs. It is basically salt water that has the same amount of salt in it that your body tissues have! This you can use as eye drops to wash out any irritants, and you can use it to rinse off a dirty wound of foreign debris like road rash. You can sometimes find it sold at your local drug store. You buy this over the counter without a prescription. Ask your pharmacist to order you some OR look for Bausch & Lomb RENU®, it's sold as a multiple-purpose eye solution that cleanses, rinses & disinfects. It's sold for use for all soft contact lens users and it comes with a dropper for use in your eyes, and it's just normal saline, salt water! I've found this water in all local drug stores I've looked in. It is a very valuable item in your medical supplies because it can also be used as nose drops. Buy a small .5 oz. size bottle of lubricating & rewetting drops for soft & hard contact lenses and use it as nose drops instead. Lay down on the bed with your head hanging over the bed and add several squeezes of this normal saline solution from this bottle to each nostril turning your head from side to side so the salt water can get in your sinuses, wait several minutes then go and blow your nose, you'll be amazed how much better you can breathe, now this is truly a natural decongestant, no drug side effects here!
  • Colloidal Silver (antibiotic) If you don't understand how it works and see it at work fighting your own bacterial infections you won't use it!
Tip - When looking for colloidal silver solutions you should make sure they have at least 400-500 PPM ( PPM means parts per million), the silver should be a gold color, with a dropper for measuring, preferably.
Tip - Take your normal saline nose drops, the .5 oz. small squeeze bottle, remove top dropper, and add several drops, 4-8 drops of your colloidal silver to normal saline and use as nose drops, the colloidal silver along with the action of the salt water will help your stuffy nose so much, you'll be amazed!
  • Masks & Disposable Gloves for infection control; (you can get dust masks at your local home & garden center.) A mask with frequent hand washing especially after using the bathroom is a precaution you may want to take if you have a bad cold and you want to keep from spreading your germs to others, this is why I keep masks in our family medical supplies. Masks are not practical to use daily, only in a special circumstances so you may not want to keep any on hand, just turn your head away if you are coughing.
  • Laxative
Tip - Look for some generic Alophen pills, (phenolphthalein) it's listed as a stimulant laxative, follow package directions & read warnings. This is the active ingredient in Correctol but much less expensive. Buy some individual one time use FLEETS® enema's for use when nothing else works.
  • Medications; Have extra medicines your family takes to sustain life on hand.
  • Pain relievers your family uses, and keep some Ibuprofen on hand
Tip - Ibuprofen acts as an anti-inflammatory which means it will reduce the swelling in whatever injury you may have and also reduces pain & fever..
  • Sunscreen, preferably sun block 36 SpF for UVA/UVB protection
  • First Aid kit for the car.
  • Blood pressure cuff with stethoscope.
  • Flashlight
  • Large 5 inch x 9 inch abdominal bandage.
  • Thermometer
  • Scissors
  • Clamps
  • Tape measure
  • Ink pen
