After Christmas Report - 2006

Hi All….

WOW!! What a holiday!! I am still reeling from the hundreds of events that have made this the best Santa Christmas ever.

Let me start by reporting that the contributions of cash, gifts, and volunteers have surpassed every year so far. Every day in December was filled with special events that warmed my inner soul. Special angels followed us wherever we went. I spent many a night simply overwhelmed.

A woman approached me one day while I was doing my service as chaplain at our local hospital. Her question to me was, “Are you the chaplain that does Christmas?”. After my affirmative response, she slipped an envelope into my hand, hugged me, and said, “This is a love offering.” And left. This dear sweet person provided enough funding for over five families of gifts and Christmas dinners.

On another occasion, we found ourselves struggling with having enough money to purchase the necessary frying oil for our annual turkey fry. Our local men’s group has been frying turkeys at Christmas for many years now. The oil has become one of the most challenging purchases of the activity. There was concern. Then, one Monday morning, a dear supporter stopped by to deliver some donated Costco pastries and asked me if I had any use for some peanut oil. Apparently Costco donated two “damaged” 5 Gal containers of quality peanut oil to the Cause. Oh the bells were ringing that morning! Thank you, thank you, thank you Costco! Deep fried turkeys blessed the homes of over 30 families Christmas Day!

One afternoon, close to The Big Night, a mother and children stopped by our home. Santa was feeling a bit under the weather, so Mrs. Clause did the garage door greeting. In marched this glowing family with huge lawn bags filled with new toys. Dolls, stuffed animals, racing cars, toy models, books, action toys… All was delivered and our mystery family was then gone into the night. Piles of toys hungry to touch a child’s heart.

Then we have our volunteers. Talk about special angels that swoop in, make every item a special gift, and then scoot off into the night. We had dozens and dozens of special volunteers this year. On floors, on tables, on chairs…little hands wrapping ever so neatly all these gifts. The Spirit of Goodness always fills the air when my special elves are here. Once they leave, we step back in amazement at the piles of holiday gifts now awaiting delivery.

Many elves in a group came back often. Their busy hands and cheerful hearts offered chorus after chorus of heavenly hymns honoring the spirit of the season. Every day, every night was just packed with such blessings. I always went to bed filled with the spirit and ever so hungry for a evening’s rest.

As Christmas eve reached our door, there were elves delivering a full Christmas to a large family nearly 20 miles distant. Oh how warm to deliver arm-loads of gifts to a family that has practically nothing.

Yes, my dear friends, this was a most special Christmas. To some, they may say “for what was given”. For me it has been, “For what has been received.”

A most special thanks to the hundreds of you that have helped to unfold these blessings. As Martha Stewart would say, “It’s a good thing.”

Thank you all again for your loving efforts. The angels are rejoicing.

Blessings to all.
